Dr. Prasanna Tendolkar

Dr. Prasanna Tendolkar is a highly regarded Psychiatrist from Mumbai city of Maharashtra, specialising in Geriatric Psychiatry and Sex Therapy. He has more than 15 years of rich experience in counselling and treatment of mental deformities in humans with old age and sexual dysfunction.

He accomplished his medical graduation (MBBS) in 1995, DPM (Psychological Medicine) in 1998 and MD (Psychological Medicine) in 2000 from Bombay University. He is Fellow of Indian Psychiatric Society (FIPS), which is the largest fraternity of Indian Psychiatrists. He gained deeper insights in various aspects of Psychiatry by serving as Residing officer at Rajawadi Municipal Corporation Hospital and Topiwala National Medical College & B.Y.L Nair Charitable Hospital.

Dr. Tendolkar is the Founder and Director of 'Mindcare Institute of Mental Health & Behavioral Sciences', a centre dedicated towards management of all major psychiatric disorders. He, along with a team of highly skilled consultants, are involved in the treatment process as well as creating awareness programs.

Dr. Tendolkar is actively involved in organising events where he shares his expertise with the primary aim of spreading awareness. He has organised and participated in the stall exhibition 'Mental Health' which was a part of the Annual Health Exhibition at World Trade Centre, Bombay in year 1996-1997. He played a crucial role in organizing the 'Mental Health Week' in the B.Y.L.Ch. Nair Hospital during the World Health Organization (WHO) World Mental Health Week celebrations in the years 1997, 1998 and 1999. He has also organized and presented CMEs on “Depression in Children” in 1997 and “Psychoneuroendocrinology” in 1999.

Dr. Tendolkar has been equally zealous in participating and organising extra curricular activities during his academic years as well as in current practice. Some of the activities worth highlighting are as below -

- Participated and organized cricket matches between various departments of hospital. He has also represented undergraduate medical college in the games of cricket & volleyball.
- Part of the winning team for the intercollegiate quiz competition (1999) for the post graduate students in psychiatry. This quiz is an annual event held under aegis of Bombay Psychiatry Society.
- Regular column named ‘Sex Talk’ in Marathi daily Mahanagar where he attempts to dispel sexual misconceptions and problems of the populace. He also writes a monthly column in magazine 'Saheli'.
- Delivered lectures on 'Stress in Adolescents' to undergraduate students in various colleges in Mumbai.
- As a Medical Officer of a primary health centre, he organized blood donation camps in village.
- Guest speaker for Association Of Physicians India, Konkan Chapter on Seminar "Depression" (2001).

Dr. Tendolkar is a regular participant in major Psychiatric conferences and workshops held at national and international level. In the past he has attended Bombay Psychiatric Society Annual Conference 1996, 1997, 1998 to 2002; West Zone Indian Psychiatric Society Annual Conference 1996, 1999, 2000 to 2001; Indian Psychiatry Annual Conference (Chandigarh Jan-2004) and WPA (World Psychiatry Association) Conference in Amsterdam (2011), Washington (2012).

Dr. Tendolkar is involved in teaching and training his companions and juniors. As a senior resident, he had teaching experience of 1 year in the Department of Psychiatry of TN Medical College. He is a part of clinical teaching at Shushrusha Hospital for homeopathy interns. He is also involved in training of nursing staff in severely psychiatrically ill patients at Mindcare Institute of Mental Health & Behavioural Sciences.
